In 1997, a grass roots community group was raising money to purchase the Wilcox property – a 71 acre bluff-top overlooking Arroyo Burro Beach. The campaign was several hundred thousand dollars short Douglas met the shortfall and the property was re-named the Douglas Family Preserve.
